Job description
Role overview
Lancashire County Council is recruiting a Streetworks Inspector for a permanent, full-time post based in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, with work carried out across the county. The salary for this position is £28,142 to £32,061 per year, and the standard working pattern is 37 hours a week.
Streetworks Inspectors are central to delivering the Lancashire permit scheme. The role focuses on checking and coordinating highway works, making sure that activity is planned safely, managed effectively, and carried out in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, the Lancashire permit scheme, and the relevant national codes of practice.
What the job involves
You will inspect street and highway works, liaise with utility companies and contractors, and support good planning, coordination, and site safety. A major part of the role is reducing disruption and delay caused by works on the highway while ensuring all required standards and conditions are followed.
Working arrangement
This is an office-based post from the Cuerden Way team base in Bamber Bridge, but it requires regular travel and flexible working across Lancashire. The role includes a substantial amount of outdoor work.
Working hours are organised on a split rota: one week from 07:30 to 15:30, and the next from 09:00 to 17:00. The team works on a 5-over-7 pattern, so weekend duties are included on a rota basis. Flexibility within contracted hours will be needed to meet service demands.
Transport and driving requirements
A full, valid driving licence is essential because the job involves extensive travel. Lancashire County Council will provide a van or a similar vehicle for work-related travel.
You are also expected to provide your own car for use in connection with the role and ensure it is insured for business use. If you are unable to drive because of a disability, this may still be considered.
Additional information
Lancashire County Council offers a package of benefits, which is available through the council’s vacancies information. The employer also reserves the right to close the vacancy early if enough suitable applications are received before the advertised closing date.
