Job description
Company Overview
Abmodas Productions is a well-established production company in Zimbabwe with more than ten years of experience crafting film and television stories rooted in African culture. Its portfolio includes notable titles such as City of Dreams (2011) and Varsity: Mirror of Personality (2012). The studio combines international production know-how with deep local understanding, giving creative teams access to African settings, talent, and story worlds. It is a collaborative workplace for professionals who want to help shape meaningful, culturally grounded screen content.
Role Overview
We are seeking an on-site Storyboard Artist for a one-year contract based in Harare. In this role, you will turn scripts and ideas into clear visual story sequences for film and television. You will map out camera setups, framing, scene flow, and transitions, while ensuring the visuals support the intended creative direction.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will involve building detailed storyboards, sketching key frames, and refining scenes in partnership with directors and writers. You will revise artwork based on production feedback, coordinate with animators, cinematographers, and editors, and help preserve visual consistency across the project. You will also support style guidelines and work to production deadlines.
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate should have strong storyboard development ability, including visual sequencing, shot planning, and scene composition. You should be comfortable drawing concept art for characters, settings, and environments, and should understand 2D animation workflows and animation principles well enough to create effective boards and animatics. Experience with digital illustration and storyboard tools such as Photoshop, Storyboard Pro, or similar software is important. A good grasp of cinematography, pacing, and visual storytelling structure is also needed. Background training or education in animation, illustration, film, or a related discipline is an advantage. You should also be open to feedback, able to collaborate well, and capable of managing time and deadlines in a busy production setting.
