Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Statutory & Tax Compliance Manager to be based in Nairobi, Kenya or Nigeria (Lagos or Abuja) on an indefinite contract. This role is integral to the Statutory and Tax Centre of Excellence (CoE), primarily focusing on the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region but may extend support to other areas when needed. The manager will lead local statutory financial reporting and tax compliance, ensuring adherence to accounting standards and tax laws across multiple countries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead statutory reporting and tax compliance across SSA, ensuring that financial statements, tax filings, and regulatory submissions are completed accurately and punctually.
  • Provide expert guidance on statutory reporting, tax issues, and regulatory changes, evaluating their effect on operations and advising on risk mitigation.
  • Develop and apply tax strategies, policies, and processes aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Manage compliance for direct and indirect taxes, including corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing, guaranteeing timely filings and payments.
  • Engage with external auditors, tax authorities, advisors, and regulatory agencies to support audits and resolve compliance matters.
  • Collaborate with regional finance teams, business leaders, and external service providers to enhance reporting quality and financial control.
  • Monitor and implement changes in accounting standards and tax regulations across jurisdictions.
  • Assess business activities and contracts for tax and statutory impact, minimizing exposure and supporting informed decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvements in statutory reporting and tax processes to boost efficiency and consistency.
  • Provide training and coaching to build organizational competence in financial reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory adherence, fostering a culture of accountability.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in finance controllership, tax accounting, and statutory reporting.
  • Experience managing corporate taxes, VAT, withholding tax, and statutory reports for multiple countries within a global or regional context.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex tax and accounting issues effectively.
  • Solid understanding of financial controls and professional accounting standards applicable to commercial or charitable entities.
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills paired with business partnering experience.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; SAP experience is advantageous.
  • Professional accounting qualification with at least 5 years post-qualification experience.
  • Previous involvement in shared services, multicultural international environments, and change initiatives is desirable.
