Role overview
William Budd is a 22-bed mixed-gender haematology and oncology ward located in the newly built Dyson Cancer Centre. The ward cares for people receiving intensive chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, stem cell transplants, symptom control, and end-of-life care.
This is a busy, energetic unit with a strong focus on patient safety and a positive patient experience. The team has already earned silver ward accreditation and is working toward gold. Both newly qualified and experienced nurses are encouraged to apply if they want to grow their skills in oncology and haematology within a demanding but supportive setting.
The ward is known for its experienced, welcoming team and active commitment to staff learning and engagement. It offers strong support for development, education, and progression.

Main duties
- Provide nursing care to a consistently high standard and work in line with a structured nursing process to achieve care objectives.
- Assess, plan, deliver, and review personalised care that centres on the patient, while offering guidance and support to colleagues as needed.
- Welcome patients and relatives in line with policy and keep them updated on treatment and progress.
- Manage patient property according to unit procedures and within the scope of hospital responsibility.
- Support the learning and supervision needs of junior team members, including Nurse Associates and Health Care Support Workers.

Person specification
Essential: Registered Nurse.
Desirable: Previous experience in oncology or an oncology/haematology qualification.
Essential knowledge/skills: Understanding of oncology and haematology work.
Desirable knowledge/skills: Interest in developing a career within oncology and haematology.
