Role summary
District Wharf Properties, LLC is hiring a Staff Accountant to support its accounting function for The District Wharf, a 3.2 million square foot mixed-use development on the Potomac River that includes retail, residential, office, hotel, maritime, and entertainment components.
What you'll do
- Handle month-end closing activities for several entities within the Wharf portfolio.
- Post recurring monthly journal entries and prepare or reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Partner with property managers to make sure accounting records for Wharf properties remain accurate.
- Process check deposits across multiple bank accounts.
- Complete bank reconciliations for numerous accounts.
- Prepare intercompany billing for several Wharf entities.
- Upload and categorize accounts payable for multiple entities and assist with check runs and payments.
- Create quarterly workpaper support for the consolidated Wharf entity.
- Assist with the annual audit process.
- Take on additional projects and duties as needed.
Skills and experience needed
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
- 2 to 5 years of accounting experience is preferred, especially with accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general ledger work.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is required.
- Background in real estate accounting, MRI, or AvidXchange is an advantage.
- Strong analytical ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are important.
- You should be highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.
- The role calls for someone who can perform well in a fast-moving environment.
- Candidates must live in the Washington, DC area and be available to work onsite at The Wharf 4 to 5 days per week.
Physical requirements

Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $75,000 per year.
