Job description
Primary Purpose of the Role
The senior radiation safety officer will be responsible for shaping and maintaining effective radiation safety strategies, standards, and procedures, and for ensuring they are properly carried out. The role focuses on reducing exposure and risks from radiation sources across QatarEnergy to a level that is as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP), while staying aligned with statutory obligations, internal corporate requirements, and recognized industry best practices.
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of 15 years of hands-on experience in radiation safety is mandatory.
- At least 5 to 10 years of professional background in the oil and gas or petrochemical sector is required, including responsibility for managing radiation safety.
- A Chartered Safety Professional (CSP) qualification and/or an international certification or training such as NEBOSH International General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, or an equivalent industry credential is preferred.
- A valid Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) license, issued in line with national requirements, is required.
- Proven ability to use technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to influence decisions across diverse stakeholder groups while balancing business challenges.
- Strong communication and people leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Comfort working in a multicultural setting and collaborating productively across functions and teams.
- Excellent analytical thinking, with the ability to identify patterns, assess risks, and determine root causes.
- Sound judgment in resolving problems, evaluating options, and making decisions on complex radiation safety issues.
- Strong report-writing capability.
- Excellent spoken and written English; knowledge of Arabic will be an advantage.
Education
A BSc/BEng degree in Engineering or a Science discipline is required.
