Job description

About the Role

Mustard Systems is looking for a graduate-level Sports Quantitative Analyst to join its Quant team in Hammersmith. The team develops predictive models that are widely respected for their quality, using advanced statistical techniques to analyse cricket and trading strategies, and often creating proprietary methods of their own. The work focuses on answering practical strategic questions such as which tactic works best in a given situation, how matchups influence outcomes, and which players are truly strongest.

What You Will Do

  • Investigate recent modelling developments to find better ways of identifying useful patterns in noisy data.
  • Become part of a small, highly collaborative group of mathematicians and take on substantial responsibility early in the role.
  • Develop your own models by applying original ideas and approaches.
  • Partner with experienced traders and software developers to refine and improve model performance.
  • Learn from senior quants and build high-quality models using proven methods and expertise.

Candidate Profile

  • You should have a first-class degree from a leading university, or a 2:1 from Oxford or Cambridge.
  • Your academic background should include statistics and probability theory at degree level.
  • You need strong curiosity, originality, and the confidence to test new ideas.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving ability and clear communication skills are important.
  • An interest in sports or competitive games is desirable; prior cricket knowledge is not required.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position. The team works from the office every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and works from home every Wednesday and Friday.

Why Join

  • Work on advanced systems in a highly competitive and innovative industry.
  • Be part of an intelligent, driven team whose work has a direct effect on business results.
  • Help shape the company’s technical direction and contribute to its goal of doubling revenue over the next three years.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive pay with strong bonus potential.
  • Enhanced pension matching with a salary sacrifice option.
  • Private health insurance and life assurance.
  • Sabbatical leave after five years of service.
  • 33 days of annual leave, bank holidays included.
