Role Overview

The Mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) Engineer is tasked with the comprehensive design, planning, and enhancement of 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile networks. Their primary goal is to achieve superior coverage, capacity, service quality, and user satisfaction by applying expert radio network planning techniques.

Key Duties

  • Execute radio network planning and dimensioning for both new installations and existing sites.
  • Use planning software such as Atoll to conduct thorough coverage and capacity analyses.
  • Develop radio network solutions for expansions, updates, and technology transitions.
  • Design frequency allocation plans, manage neighbor cell relations, and configure network parameters.
  • Analyze traffic patterns and forecast future network capacity needs.
  • Monitor network performance indicators (KPIs) and suggest optimization strategies.
  • Assist site acquisition teams by assessing potential locations and predicting coverage.
  • Create and validate propagation models and perform coverage simulations.
  • Verify consistency between network planning and actual deployment.
  • Engage in network rollout processes including integration, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
  • Compile detailed planning reports and provide strategic recommendations to management.
  • Collaborate effectively with optimization, transmission, deployment, and operations teams.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in mobile telecommunication technologies are beneficial.
  • Between 2 to 5 years of experience in radio planning, network optimization, or engineering roles within mobile networks.
  • Proficiency in mobile network deployment and performance evaluation.
  • Expertise in radio network planning and optimization across GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G NR platforms.
  • Strong understanding of RF propagation, link budget assessments, antenna design, and frequency interference management.
  • Ability to perform KPI analysis and employ performance monitoring tools.
  • Experienced with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Familiarity with transmission systems and core network interfaces.
