Job description

About the role

IAG is a major general insurance organisation across Australia and New Zealand, focused on helping people feel safer and making insurance more accessible. In this position, you will act as a specialist employee relations partner, providing compliant, trusted guidance to P&C, leaders, and their teams. The role is designed to help employees perform well by supporting a safe, inclusive workplace and by strengthening policies and processes that align with IAG’s purpose and strategic goals.

This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time position based across multiple locations in New Zealand.

What you'll do

  • Advise P&C, leaders, and their teams on employee relations matters within agreed service levels, while staying aligned with policy, procedure, and legal requirements.
  • Support the rollout of employee relations initiatives, including training that builds leader capability and addresses emerging workplace trends.
  • Partner with the ER Lead and ER Advisors on complex and escalated casework.
  • Carry out P&C due diligence and integration work.
  • Work with the internal employment law team to escalate matters and obtain legal guidance where needed.
  • Contribute to the people-related elements of business-led projects.
  • Help identify and manage risk by partnering with P&C and business leaders on employee relations issues.
  • Handle claims and represent IAG in mediation and before the Employment Relations Authority.
  • Track external developments, including legislation, case law, and regulation, to maintain a current and compliant employee relations approach.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including unions.

What you'll bring

  • Between 5 and 8+ years of experience in employee relations or employment law, ideally in a complex commercial environment.
  • The ability to turn technical employee relations issues into practical, clear advice.
  • Experience advising on people aspects of transactions and business projects.
  • Confidence working independently while also contributing as part of a high-performing team.
  • A strategic approach that anticipates issues and addresses them early.
  • The confidence to challenge constructively and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience coaching leaders and HR professionals on employee relations matters.
  • A strong habit of staying current with external changes and applying them internally.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and the wider group to reach shared solutions.
  • Strong mediation capability.

What we offer

  • Employer KiwiSaver contribution of 4.5%, plus life insurance as standard.
  • 20 days of annual leave and 5 extra MyLeave days for what matters to you.
  • Flexible working options, including work-from-home support through myFlex.
  • Up to 50% discount on personal insurance, including home and motor cover.
  • An annual health and wellbeing payment of $500.
  • 14 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning, IAG Academy, study support, and secondment opportunities.
