About MINDS
MINDS has been supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and their families since 1962. Built on the belief that every person has abilities and potential, the organisation works to improve quality of life and promote greater inclusion in Singapore. It is one of the country’s largest charities, with more than 850 employees, and delivers a wide range of community-based services, education, training, care, and support programmes across the lifespan of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Its services include schools, employment and training development centres, home-based care, community-based support, and other programmes designed to address physical, psychological, environmental, and social needs.
Role Overview
The Special Student Care Centre Officer supports the day-to-day programme needs of the Special Student Care Centre under Community-Based Support Services (CSS). CSS is MINDS’ responsive community service arm, created to meet the changing needs of persons with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers through services such as Me Too! Club, Homebased Care Services, Caregivers Support Services, Special Student Care Centres, and Appropriate Adult Services.
In this role, you will use person-centred and family-centred practices, together with positive behavioural support, to run enrichment and care activities for children and youths aged 7 to 18 with special needs. The position focuses on improving students’ wellbeing by providing before- and after-school care, adapting learning activities, supporting classroom management, and working closely with caregivers, volunteers, community partners, and other service providers.
Direct Client Care

- Supervise students and provide guidance throughout centre activities.
- Use a person-centred approach and positive behavioural strategies to support safety, development, and overall wellbeing.
Programme Planning and Delivery
- Design and run developmentally appropriate teaching, learning, and caregiving activities that encourage independence, health, wellness, and quality of life.
- Support students in building basic personal, social, academic, and work-related skills.
- Use engaging and creative methods to keep students interested and actively involved in lessons.
- Record and track students’ learning progress and developmental outcomes.
- Apply classroom management techniques to maintain a structured and supportive environment.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with caregivers to ensure consistency of care and learning between home and the centre.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and volunteers.
- Collaborate with different MINDS teams in the delivery of programmes and projects.
Centre Operations
- Assist with operational and administrative duties assigned to the centre.
- Follow health, hygiene, and safety requirements, and prepare proper documentation for incident reports.
- Take part in staff meetings, in-service learning, professional development, and service quality improvement initiatives.
Requirements and Other Information
Applicants should have at least O Levels, ITE, or a Diploma. The role calls for resilience, strong teamwork, professionalism, empathy, a love for learning, and a genuine passion for working with children.
Experience in training persons with special needs, behaviour management techniques, child development, lesson planning, or school-age care best practices will be an advantage. Candidates must be fully able to join both on-site and off-site activities.
First Aid and CPR certification is preferred, and training will be provided if needed.
