Job description

Overview

This role is exempt from the federal hiring freeze and involves serving as an FBI Special Agent, where analytical thinking, adaptability, and effective decision-making are crucial to national security efforts. You will utilize your existing law and legal experience to investigate violent crimes, cyber threats, fraud, terrorism, and other significant dangers.

Role Details

Your skills in litigation, legal writing, financial scrutiny, and detailed data analysis provide a strong foundation for transitioning into federal law enforcement. This position challenges you to expand your expertise into complex investigations using pattern recognition, evidence evaluation, and case ownership. Each day presents new, diverse challenges; however, the FBI supports your growth with competitive remuneration, comprehensive benefits, and a healthy work environment that balances flexibility and resources.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage investigations concerning potential violations of federal law, cybercrime, and public safety threats.
  • Apply sound judgment, resourcefulness, and flexibility to meet the requirements of investigations.
  • Develop and sustain effective partnerships with law enforcement agencies at federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international levels.
  • Maintain required physical fitness standards to perform necessary law enforcement tasks.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance.
  • Willingness to travel as job duties require.
  • Meet the FBI’s employment eligibility criteria.
  • Possess a bachelor’s or J.D. degree (ideally in law or a related field) from a U.S. accredited institution, with degree verification via official transcripts.

Application Instructions

Applicants must submit a resume highlighting work experience with start and end dates (limited to two pages), along with supporting documentation such as college transcripts and, for veterans, relevant DD 214 forms and accompanying documentation as specified.

Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges between $93,749 and $133,200, adjusted based on base pay, locality, and availability incentives. The FBI emphasizes equal opportunity employment without discrimination.
