About Us

Debenhams Group is undergoing a significant transformation to refresh its brand identity, culture, and engagement with both colleagues and customers. In a constantly evolving retail landscape, clear and genuine communication is key to fostering trust, unifying teams, and enhancing our impact on audiences internally and externally.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and commercially-minded Softs Multi-Product Designer to join our dynamic, agile, and creative in-house design team located in central London. Our designers are passionate about detail, drawing inspiration from international runway trends, street style, and competitive market analysis to serve our customers better.

In this position, you will independently develop trend-driven, creative, and commercially viable woven multi-product collections that align with customer briefs and uphold the brand’s unique style. Collaboration with buying, print design, garment technology, and cold-weather teams will be essential to produce cohesive seasonal collections and complete customer looks. You will oversee your product areas from initial concept and trend research through to fit and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Discover and analyze emerging trends to influence key business decisions and swiftly capitalize on market opportunities with a clear understanding of the supply chain.
  • Conduct thorough season catwalk, street-style, and competitor reviews to inform your range direction.
  • Lead the creation of trend mood boards, color palettes, and design strategies that preserve brand DNA while seeking innovative opportunities.
  • Source and develop new fabrics and incorporate custom embellishments and embroidery in the ranges.
  • Partner with print designers to craft unique engineered placements and signature prints that introduce fresh, best-in-class products.
  • Produce detailed hand sketches, CAD illustrations, and precise design specifications utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Innovate and enhance bestselling products to maintain the commercial foundation of the collection based on trade feedback.
  • Work closely with buyers, merchandisers, and cold-weather teams to develop balanced, cohesive, and commercially focused ranges.
  • Participate actively in fit and seal sessions alongside garment technologists to safeguard the integrity of original designs.
  • Be open to domestic and international travel for supplier engagement and research.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in womenswear softs and woven multi-product design.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in the fashion industry.
  • A degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • Strong freehand drawing abilities and proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • A compelling portfolio showing deep trend insight, commercial awareness, and understanding of Debenhams’ customer base.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of textiles, woven fabrics, garment construction, and fit.
  • Sound technical skills and familiarity with the product development cycle.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple collections and deadlines efficiently.
  • Professionalism, focus, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Creative problem-solving aptitude and agility in a fast-evolving retail environment.
  • A genuine passion for fashion, product design, and customer needs.
  • Open to integrating AI tools in the workplace; prior experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
