Job description
Position overview
This full-time administrative social work role supports the behavioral health outpatient program at the MDH Dorchester County Health Department in Cambridge, Maryland. It is a Grade 19 position.
Primary purpose
The role centers on leading social work and counseling operations, identifying ways to improve the use of current services, recommending service expansion where needed, and maintaining service quality through supervision and team development.
Key duties
- Direct and oversee social work and counseling services within the behavioral health outpatient setting.
- Evaluate existing programs and suggest better ways to use current resources.
- Recommend new or expanded services when needs are identified.
- Support service quality through coaching, supervision, and staff development.
Minimum qualifications
Education is determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing standards for social workers. The position requires six years of clinical social work experience in a health care or treatment setting after earning an approved Master of Social Work degree from an accredited college or university. At least two of those years must include either leadership of a clinical program or unit, or supervision of social workers with master's degrees.
Preferred background
Experience in substance use disorder treatment is preferred.
Licenses and certifications
- Applicants must hold a Certified Social Worker-Clinical license from the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners before appointment. Candidates may still apply if the license is pending, but it must be submitted once obtained.
- If the assigned duties involve driving, the employee must have a valid Maryland driver's license.
Selection process
Qualified applicants will be reviewed based on minimum and selective qualifications, with evaluation focused on education, training, and work experience as it relates to the role. Candidates must provide complete and accurate application details, including all related education, experience, dates, and work hours. Applicants educated outside the United States may be required to submit a foreign credential equivalency evaluation before employment begins, and possibly before interview.
