Job description

About the Organization

ONE is a worldwide, nonpartisan advocacy organization working toward a fairer future by pushing for the funding needed to expand economic opportunity and improve health outcomes across Africa. Its approach combines rigorous data, trusted grassroots action, creative political outreach, and strategic alliances to influence decision-makers and drive action on major global issues.

About the Role

ONE is hiring a Social Strategy & Content Lead to shape and oversee social media strategy, channel performance, and audience development across its global platforms. This is a senior, highly practical position that blends strategy with hands-on content work, experimentation, and close involvement in daily platform operations.

The ideal candidate will be deeply immersed in social media culture, with a strong understanding of platform dynamics, audience patterns, creator communities, and new technologies. You will use those insights to build content, campaigns, and distribution approaches that strengthen reach, engagement, visibility, and advocacy outcomes. You will join a collaborative team of content, creative, and communications professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as ONE’s internal specialist on social platforms, algorithm shifts, audience behavior, creator culture, and new digital tools, while continuously testing fresh formats and opportunities.
  • Direct the everyday social strategy and publishing approach across channels, turning organizational priorities into platform-specific plans, engagement tactics, and timely reactive content.
  • Own cross-platform performance tracking and reporting using Emplifi and native analytics, then convert findings into practical steps that improve reach, growth, and content quality.
  • Shape platform-native content direction by guiding editorial planning, content formats, storytelling approaches, creator collaborations, videos, graphics, and campaign assets.
  • Lead organic, paid, and partner-led distribution efforts to increase audience growth, campaign reach, and engagement, while scaling content that performs well.
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Partnership Strategies to identify and work with creators, influencers, activists, and aligned partners who can expand credibility and audience connection.
  • Create priority, experimental, and reactive social content when needed, including short-form video, interviews, event coverage, creator-led pieces, and social-first storytelling assets.
  • Manage and coach the Social & Content Coordinator, setting clear direction, offering feedback, supporting development, and overseeing publishing, community management, and execution.
  • Work closely with internal creative and brand colleagues, designers, regional social leads, outside creators, agencies, and partners to deliver integrated campaigns and stronger results.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience leading social media strategy, audience growth, and content performance for brands, campaigns, media outlets, agencies, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Strong working knowledge of major platforms including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, X, Bluesky, and newer emerging channels.
  • Proven ability to grow audiences, lift engagement, and turn platform insights into effective social strategies.
  • Experience building channel-specific content plans and guiding social-first storytelling, video, creator partnerships, and community engagement.
  • Comfort managing both organic and paid social activity, with the ability to use data and analytics to improve results.
  • Good understanding of creator and influencer ecosystems and how partnerships can support audience and campaign goals.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  • Experience supervising, coaching, or developing junior colleagues, freelancers, creators, or agency partners.
  • Hands-on comfort creating content, including short-form video and platform-native social assets.
  • Preferred tools include Canva, Emplfi, and CapCut.

Additional Attributes

  • A collaborative and empathetic approach to teamwork.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • Creative thinking with a strong growth mindset.
  • Genuine passion for the organization’s mission.

Language, Travel, and Work Setup

English fluency is required. Knowledge of other languages, especially French or German, is considered an advantage. The role may involve up to 5% international and/or domestic travel. This is a hybrid position with two days per week in the office and the remainder remote. Reasonable accommodations may be available to support people with disabilities in carrying out the essential duties of the job.

Application Notes

Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter. The organization welcomes requests for reasonable accommodation and provides a process for candidates who need support during the application or selection process. It is an equal opportunity employer and encourages candidates from a wide range of backgrounds to apply. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
