Job description

Position Overview

The Social Media Strategist will serve as the community manager and lead digital content curator for Connecticut College's main social media platforms. This position focuses on fostering a lively social media presence on campus, promoting content externally, collaborating on recruitment and alumni engagement campaigns, and shaping the College's social media strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the College's social media accounts and content calendar, creating captivating content aligned with brand strategy.
  • Act as the main contact for social media inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analyze engagement data and social media metrics to optimize ongoing strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Content Creator focused on video to produce engaging multimedia content.
  • Lead and supervise digital content interns, including organizing weekly meetings.
  • Monitor social media conversations about the College, responding appropriately and alerting leadership to potential crises.
  • Develop and execute content ideas encompassing a variety of media types to boost audience engagement.
  • Advise on social media trends, test new platforms, and establish best practices for existing and emerging channels.
  • Oversee the social media scheduling software, maintain documentation and training protocols to ensure operational continuity.
  • Provide training and guidance to campus-wide social media managers.
  • Create annual and event-specific content plans to support integrated marketing communications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital content, or related fields such as filmography.
  • Three to five years of proven experience managing social media.
  • Familiarity with design applications like Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva.
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Proficiency with social media tools and platforms.
  • Competence in basic photography and videography.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Comfortable handling technology and managing data.
  • High ethical standards and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet goals effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Self-motivated with positive solution-oriented thinking within team settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with social media scheduling and monitoring tools such as Sprout Social.
  • Previous work experience in higher education marketing or communications.

Additional Information

  • Full-time continuing appointment with 37.5 hours per week and 52 weeks per year schedule.
  • Position benefits are fully eligible.
  • No relocation reimbursement is provided.
  • Salary range: $58,000 to $61,200 annually, with final compensation reflecting experience and institutional pay equity.
  • Thorough credentialing including criminal background, DMV check, and potentially psychological exam and pre-placement physical will be conducted on the selected candidate.
