Job description
About the publication
Women’s Agenda is an independent daily newsroom covering politics, business, health, technology and related topics. The team is small and highly creative, and its reporting and opinion content reaches audiences through several channels each day.
Role overview
The organisation is looking for a social media journalist to help expand and support its news coverage across social platforms and its daily newsletter.
Working arrangement
This is a part-time fixed-term contract for six months, intended to cover a team member’s leave. The role involves 20 to 24 hours per week across four to five days, with weekday shifts starting at 10:00 am.
The position can be performed remotely, though the team is based in Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and the successful candidate will need to attend the office occasionally. Team members may also be asked to support in-person events in Sydney and interstate from time to time.
What the role calls for
The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for news, social media and the changing nature of journalism on digital platforms. They should be able to source and shape compelling content that helps build audience growth, craft strong headlines, captions and other engaging copy, and produce multimedia material that performs well across key channels. The role also requires the ability to generate story ideas and adapt storytelling formats quickly during busy news periods, along with a willingness to learn new tools that improve publishing practices.
Day-to-day journalism experience is important, including pitching, interviewing, research and writing solid stories. A strong interest in women’s health, representation, economic opportunity and women driving change globally is also expected.
Bonus experience
Experience in podcasting, podcast editing or podcast promotion would be an advantage.
Pay and conditions
The hourly rate is between $35 and $48, depending on experience, plus superannuation.
How to apply
Applicants should submit a CV that includes the social media accounts they have managed or worked on, along with a 100 to 300 word cover letter written in their own words explaining why they are a strong match for the position. The cover letter must not be AI-generated.
