Job description
About the Role
Pets Sanctuary is a mission-driven organization that relies on social media to connect with people who care about animals and inspire them to take action. Through thoughtful digital storytelling, the organization aims to encourage adoptions, donations, foster participation, and the sharing of rescue stories.
As the Digital Content and Social Media Coordinator, you will own the day-to-day social presence across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. This is a fully remote, hands-on creative role where your work will directly support the rescue mission and be visible to the founding leadership team.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys social media and genuinely cares about animal welfare. You should be able to tell stories that capture attention, build emotion, and motivate people to engage with the cause.
Content Creation and Publishing
- Plan, create, edit, and publish content consistently across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram on a daily and weekly schedule.
- Develop a varied content mix that may include rescued-animal photos, adoption features, success stories, behind-the-scenes updates, donor appreciation posts, animal welfare education, and campaign announcements.
- Write clear, engaging captions, headlines, and calls to action in a voice that feels warm, human, and aligned with the organization’s brand.
- Work with the partner shelter network to remotely gather, edit, and prepare animal photos and short videos for publication.
Adoption and Fostering Campaigns
- Produce social content for animals seeking homes or foster placement, including spotlight posts, profile content, and priority appeals for animals that have been waiting the longest.
- Review and reply to adoption and foster inquiries that come through social channels, then guide interested people to the correct application steps.
- Keep track of featured animals and create follow-up success-story content when they are adopted into permanent homes.
Donation Campaigns
- Design and execute fundraising campaigns on social media, including annual giving drives, urgent appeals, and awareness efforts tied to national animal welfare observances and events.
- Craft emotionally strong campaign messaging that explains how donations directly support rescued animals.
- Monitor results and refine the content approach using engagement and conversion performance data.
Community Management
- Check all social channels every day and respond promptly and thoughtfully to comments, messages, and mentions.
- Build authentic relationships with followers, donors, fosters, and adopters within the online community.
- Reach out to animal welfare advocates, rescue groups, and potential partners online to expand the organization’s network and visibility.
Brand Consistency
- Keep all published content aligned with the organization’s mission, visual style, and tone of voice.
- Maintain a forward-looking content calendar to ensure steady posting across all platforms.
- Coordinate closely with the leadership team so social media activity supports organizational priorities, campaigns, and announcements.
Reporting and Strategy
- Monitor key metrics such as follower growth, engagement, reach, and campaign results across platforms.
- Prepare regular performance updates for leadership and share practical, data-backed suggestions for improvement.
- Stay up to date on social media trends, algorithm updates, and best practices in nonprofit and animal welfare communications.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of professional social media management experience, ideally in a nonprofit, animal welfare, or cause-driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to produce content that is visually engaging and emotionally persuasive enough to encourage action.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt to a brand voice and maintain a friendly, conversational style.
- Comfort working independently and managing your own schedule and content calendar with minimal supervision.
- Practical knowledge of LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, including platform formats, algorithms, and current best practices.
- Experience using basic design or photo-editing tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, or similar.
- A dependable high-speed internet connection and a professional home workspace.
- Strong personal interest in animal welfare and commitment to the Pets Sanctuary mission.
- Preferred: experience creating and editing short-form video for Instagram Reels or Facebook video.
- Preferred: familiarity with scheduling tools such as Buffer, Hootsuite, or Later.
- Preferred: experience with paid social media advertising.
- Preferred: background in nonprofit communications, fundraising campaigns, or cause marketing.
- Preferred: based in Colorado, which may make occasional in-person collaboration possible if needed, though this is not required.
What We Offer
- Annual compensation of $70,000 to $90,000, based on experience.
- A fully remote role with flexible working hours.
- Direct access to and collaboration with the founding team.
- Creative freedom to help build the digital identity of a growing nonprofit from the ground up.
- The opportunity to create measurable impact for rescued animals through your work.
- A mission-first team culture that values ideas and celebrates every success.
