Job description

Assignment overview

This is a short-term online volunteering assignment focused on supporting social media content for the Building Africa live show. The work is remote, task-based, and non-contractual. Volunteers are not UN Volunteers, do not receive any allowance or entitlement, and receive a certificate of appreciation after successful completion. The UNV team is not responsible for the selection process or for any collaboration arrangements.

Context

The timbuktoo Africa Innovation Foundation is a continent-wide innovation initiative based in UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Africa. It aims to help African founders launch, expand, and scale their ventures, with a target of 100,000 startups enrolled and USD 1 billion mobilised for African innovation. Building Africa is the Foundation’s weekly live show on LinkedIn Live and Facebook Live, featuring conversations with African startup founders and ecosystem builders. Content shared after each episode is used to extend the show’s reach, keep the audience engaged between broadcasts, and strengthen the Foundation’s presence across social media platforms.

Well-developed post-show material, such as short recap posts and pull-quote graphics, is an important part of audience growth and mission communication.

Assignment details

Six online volunteers are needed to help produce social media content for the Building Africa live show. The work is split between pre-show and post-show graphics support and writing support. After each broadcast, volunteers will review the replay for their assigned show and create content for the Foundation team.

Graphics support

  • Create a promotional graphic for the upcoming weekly show, to be shared 72 hours before the episode in a 4:5 format across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, and Facebook.
  • Create a recap graphic for the completed show, to be shared 24 to 48 hours after the episode in the same 4:5 format across the same social channels.
  • Select three strong pull quotes from the guest’s remarks, each 30 words or fewer, and format them as graphics-ready quote cards.

Writing support

  • Write a 100 to 150 word promotional caption for the pre-show post, published 72 hours before the live session.
  • Write a 100 to 150 word recap post to be published 24 to 48 hours after the show, summarising the main discussion points and including a call to action to watch the replay, alongside the graphics produced by the design volunteer.
  • Draft a 500 to 700 word blog post or newsletter article, to be published 72 hours after the show, in clear and engaging English for a pan-African professional audience. The article should include a brief introduction, three to four key takeaways from the conversation, and a closing reflection.
  • Choose three compelling guest quotes, each limited to 30 words or fewer, and prepare them as caption-ready text blocks suitable for graphics.

Output expectations over 12 weeks

Across the 12-week assignment, each volunteer is expected to deliver one weekly pre-show promotional graphic or post, one weekly recap graphic or post to be shared across all social channels, three pull-quote graphics or quote posts after each show, and, for the writing role, 12 blog posts delivered within 72 hours of each broadcast. One volunteer will cover graphics, while another will handle the writing for both the pre-show and post-show content for each of the three shows.

Assignment conditions

This is an online volunteering opportunity. It is short-term, task-based, and not a paid contract. Volunteerism here refers to work done freely for the public good, where monetary reward is not the main motivation.

Inclusion and safeguarding

The programme welcomes applications from qualified professionals and promotes equal opportunity. It values diversity in gender and other protected characteristics, and expects all volunteers to uphold human rights, dignity, and respect without discrimination based on race, sex, gender identity, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, age, language, social origin, or any other status.

Scam warning

No payment is ever required for application, processing, training, interviews, or testing. Be cautious with personal information online, as names, logos, emblems, and contact details can be copied or misused.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
