Job description
About the role
The Australian Hairdressing Council (AHC) is seeking a part-time Social Media + Content Creator to help shape and grow its digital presence. This is a 20-hour-per-week role that can be performed remotely, with hybrid working preferred from Melbourne. Applicants must be based in Australia.
AHC is the national peak body for Australia’s professional hairdressing and barbering industry. The organisation supports salon owners, barbers, educators and apprentices, while also advocating for businesses, promoting education and delivering national events. The role suits someone who enjoys spotting trends early, creating content that gets attention, and building engaged online communities.
Core responsibilities
You will take ownership of the organisation’s day-to-day social media activity across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. The role involves both planning and hands-on content creation, with strong creative freedom within an established brand direction.
- Develop and publish content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Build monthly content calendars and manage scheduling
- Capture, shoot and edit Reels, Stories and other short-form videos
- Produce photography and live event coverage content
- Create social graphics using Canva
- Write captions and supporting copy that match the brand voice
- Respond to and manage community engagement across channels
- Track trends, insights and platform changes
Expanded marketing exposure
While social media is the main focus, the role is expected to grow into broader digital marketing and campaign support over time. You may also contribute to email and EDM activity, website updates, event promotion, member communications, advertising support and reporting.
- Support EDM and email marketing activity
- Assist with campaign planning and creative development
- Update website content when needed
- Cover events through content capture and promotion
- Support member communications
- Assist with digital advertising activities
- Prepare basic reports and analytics summaries
Experience with email platforms such as Klaviyo, as well as automation, funnels or CRM systems, will be valued as the position expands into broader campaign and communications work.
Ideal candidate profile
The AHC is looking for someone who enjoys making content people actually want to engage with, can work independently, and is keen to grow beyond a purely social-media-only remit.
- Comfortable filming and editing content on a phone
- Confident using Reels, Stories and short-form video tools
- Skilled in Canva for fast, polished design work
- Strong writing ability with the flexibility to adjust tone for different audiences
- Enjoys community engagement and relationship-building online
- Willing to test ideas and experiment with new content formats
- Well organised and able to manage several projects at once
- Interested in AI and digital marketing tools
- Looking for career growth beyond social media
Additional experience in membership organisations, associations, not-for-profits, or the hair, beauty or creative sectors would be an advantage.
What you will bring
- Prior experience managing social media for a brand or business
- Strong Canva capability
- Experience producing video content for social platforms
- Excellent written communication
- Basic photography skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Exposure to WordPress, Mailchimp or similar tools, Meta Business Suite, or Adobe Creative Suite will also be considered beneficial.
Working arrangement and conditions
This is a part-time position requiring 20 hours per week. The role is remote / hybrid, with Melbourne preferred, and some travel will be needed for industry events.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Application details
Applicants should provide a CV, a short cover letter explaining what attracted them to the role, examples of social content such as Reels, posts, campaigns or video, and any other work they are proud of. Creativity is valued more highly than polish.
Applications close on Monday 20 July. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
