About the Position
Bernard James, a Brooklyn-based luxury jewelry company emphasizing craftsmanship and meaningful design, is seeking a dedicated and detail-focused Social Media and PR Intern. This is a hands-on internship located in Brooklyn, NY, requiring on-site presence about 20 hours per week from September 1 through December 2026, with potential for an earlier summer start and continuation into January 2027. The role offers a monthly stipend plus academic credit.
As an integral member of a small team, you will actively contribute to managing the brand's public image, including social media content creation, PR coordination, event support, research, and reporting during a dynamic fall season filled with retail and partnership activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate trends in culture, social media platforms, and visual aesthetics to guide social media strategy
- Organize and update the social media content calendar to ensure coherent campaigns
- Schedule posts and engage thoughtfully with the brand’s online audience
- Assist with capturing content and perform basic photo and video editing tasks
- Support the preparation and analysis of monthly social media performance reports
- Manage PR logistics including tracking, packaging, shipping, and return processing of fine jewelry items
- Maintain a catalog of press coverage and media mentions
- Assist with influencer gifting, outreach, and follow-up processes
- Contribute to event planning and execution including retail activations and in-store programming
- Support publicist efforts in media research, campaign implementation, and managing press logistics
- Research potential brand partnerships and collaborations aligned with company values
- Help keep communications and project tracking tools organized and up to date
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Communications, Marketing, PR, Fashion, or a related discipline
- Highly organized with strong reliability and respect for deadlines
- Excellent writing and communication abilities coupled with a keen eye for visual consistency
- Familiarity and fluency with social platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, and interest in emerging networks
- Basic skills in photo and video capture and editing
- Ability to work independently while proactively seeking guidance and taking initiative
- Detail-oriented especially in handling valuable products
- Interest in fashion, design, culture, communication, or luxury markets
- Willingness to work onsite and assist with events as needed
