Role overview

CML is seeking experienced Skilled Operatives to join its diverse team in Bridgwater. The role is mainly centred in the South West, but there will be an expectation to travel and work away from home when needed.

You will be joining an established and expanding civil engineering business with more than 300 permanent employees across the UK and over three decades of industry experience. What you'll be doing

  • Carry out tasks carefully and in line with the correct procedures and instructions, using all tools and equipment safely.
  • Work under the guidance of the Site Supervisor or General Foreman and follow directions so that you do not create risks for yourself or others.
  • Apply the level of competence developed through training and hands-on experience.
  • Complete manual work such as loading and unloading vehicles, cleaning and maintenance, digging, lifting, pulling, and any specialist trade activities you are qualified to perform as instructed.
  • Use personal protective equipment properly, keep it in good condition, and ask for additional safety clothing or equipment when improvements to safety standards are needed.
  • Make sure vehicles, materials, tools, and plant equipment in your charge are suitable for use and are handled, stored and disposed of correctly; report any faults in tools, plant, equipment or protective clothing to the Site Supervisor, General Foreman or Safety Advisor.
  • Raise any concerns about your work with the Site Supervisor or General Foreman if you are uncertain or believe safety could be improved.
  • Support and guide general operatives and less experienced team members in their tasks.
  • Arrive on time and come prepared for work with the right equipment.

Experience required

Applicants should have practical experience with the following essential items:

  • Small tools
  • Confined space working
  • CPCS dumper operation
  • CPCS roller operation
  • PTS
  • 360 excavator operation

Useful additional experience includes:

  • First aid
