Role Overview
This position is for a Site Traffic Engineer focused on roads operations and maintenance in Doha, Qatar. The role calls for someone who can analyze traffic conditions, improve road safety, and support the smooth operation and upkeep of the road network.
Key Responsibilities
- Study traffic movement patterns and create practical plans to ease congestion and improve circulation.
- Carry out road safety reviews and put corrective measures in place to protect all road users.
- Develop and fine-tune signal timings and coordination plans to improve efficiency at intersections.
- Use traffic simulation tools to evaluate and compare different traffic situations.
- Support the development and upkeep of Intelligent Transportation Systems to strengthen network performance.
- Monitor road maintenance work and work with relevant teams to ensure repairs and upgrades happen on time.
- Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and recommendations for management and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to embed traffic engineering requirements into transport projects.
- Keep current with industry developments, new technologies, and best practices in traffic engineering and road operations.
- Ensure all work follows local and international traffic engineering codes, standards, and regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in traffic engineering or a similar field, specifically involving roads operations and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of traffic engineering principles and day-to-day practices.
- Hands-on knowledge of traffic simulation software such as VISSIM and Synchro, along with CAD tools like AutoCAD.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
- Proven project management skills and relevant experience.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and statistical analysis software.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stay productive in a fast-moving environment while managing several tasks at once.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Traffic engineering certification such as PTOE is considered an advantage.
- Experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems and transportation planning is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Qatar’s local traffic regulations and standards is beneficial.
