Job description

Role overview

A biopharmaceutical project in West Cork is looking for a Site Contractor Safety Coordinator to oversee health, safety, and environmental controls for construction contractor activity on site. The role focuses on making sure contractor operations follow all relevant legislation, standards, and site-specific HSE expectations.

Key responsibilities

  • Review contractor prequalification and requalification forms, together with any supporting HSE paperwork requested by client representatives.
  • Manage the Contractor Management Portal (CMP) and support client representatives and contractor firms with portal requirements where needed.
  • Work with client representatives to assess task-based method statements and risk assessments and approve them where appropriate.
  • Help define the work scope for each contractor and identify the HSE induction training needed.
  • Verify that contractor companies are approved to work on site and that all personnel due for induction hold valid SOLAS Safe Pass, manual handling certification, and any other role-specific training.
  • Ensure contractors complete the general HSE induction assessment successfully before being issued to security for access control cards.
  • Deliver site induction and job-specific HSE training for arriving contractors, including LOTO and hot work training.
  • Check and approve permits to work and risk assessments for external contractors, including site visits before authorising higher-risk activities such as high-energy hot work in hazardous areas.
  • Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly audits covering permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space entry, and general contractor documents and working practices.
  • Run the contractor Safety Observation Report (SOR) process actively and take part in the site safety observation programme (B-safe).
  • Lead or support incident and event investigations and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
  • Take part in, and help facilitate, contractor HSE meetings when required.
  • Work closely with project, maintenance, other operational teams, and the HSE department to control the safety aspects of contractor work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or a closely related discipline.
  • Substantial HSE management experience, including work in PSDP and PSC roles.
  • Strong understanding of safety legislation, standards, and industry best practice.
  • Good organisational ability and the capacity to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Comfortable using HSE management systems and related software tools.
