Job description

Role Overview

As a Site Maintenance Service Operative at FCC Environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient management of inert and closed landfill sites. This involves conducting site inspections, overseeing contractors, and performing maintenance and repairs while adhering to environmental, health, safety, and cost guidelines.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, five days a week. The position covers multiple sites across the South East, including East Anglia, Cambridgeshire, Kent, and Essex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal and site health and safety standards are upheld.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections in line with company IMS procedures and operational agreements.
  • Assist Site Managers and Supervisors to maintain compliance with environmental permits and contracts.
  • Identify and report necessary remedial and statutory inspection tasks through approved cost control channels.
  • Conduct on-site repairs to infrastructure and equipment where feasible.
  • Monitor leachate and landfill gas systems, reporting any abnormalities.
  • Manage contractors on-site, including inductions and documentation upkeep.
  • Complete contractor oversight and relevant core skills training modules.
  • Maintain and inspect site security systems and structures.
  • Support contractor access to facilitate monitoring and compliance.
  • Utilize company vehicles, tools, laptops, and other equipment efficiently.
  • Provide coverage across multiple sites when necessary.

Candidate Requirements

  • Basic understanding of leachate, landfill gas, and environmental control systems.
  • Experience working outdoors under varying weather conditions.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Health & Safety at Work legislation.
  • Competency in IT skills including email, Microsoft Word, and smartphone applications.
  • Ability to work independently in accordance with Lone Working Procedures.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel extensively during work hours (estimated 20,000 miles annually in a company vehicle).
  • Flexible approach to working hours and site locations as operational demands require.
  • Possession of a valid UK driving licence, preferably clean.
  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and apply them effectively.
