About the Role

BAM UK & Ireland is hiring a Site Engineer for its Galway, County Galway project. The role supports the delivery of major infrastructure, housing, schools, and community developments, with a strong emphasis on social value and sustainable construction.

This position is suited to someone who can work on busy civil engineering and construction sites, coordinate technical information accurately, and help ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mark out site works and make sure foremen and operatives understand the information provided to them.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and related technical information for foremen, operatives, and subcontractors so expectations are clear.
  • Carry out material testing as instructed by the supervisor or line manager, following the relevant standards and specifications.
  • Perform quality inspections on site, particularly for rebar and concrete placement.
  • Check technical submissions before they are uploaded to the design team to confirm the right scope of work is covered.
  • Oversee concrete testing and review test results.
  • Direct subcontractors where needed on the works to be completed.
  • Prepare technical method statements.
  • Handle traffic management on site and coordinate works in a busy location.
  • Keep an accurate site diary with daily activities, important information, and notable events.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development, including completing the work-based development programme on time.
  • Work safely at all times and report unsafe practices where observed.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with all site personnel.
  • Check and monitor setting-out instruments and testing equipment.
  • Support project profitability through accurate, efficient work, good self-management, and avoiding rework.
  • Attend meetings and follow instructions as required.

Requirements

  • A third-level qualification in Engineering.
  • Previous experience in setting out or working as a Site Engineer.
  • Experience with a main contractor, subcontractor, surveying firm, or a similar organisation is preferred.
  • Prior experience managing traffic on a large city-centre site is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Project, PowerPoint, and similar tools.
