Job description

Role overview

Orbis Education and Care is hiring a Site Caretaker for the Swansea region, covering Dan Y Coed School & Home and Ty Trafle School. This is a new permanent position created through an Estates & Maintenance restructure to provide stronger local support and help keep the sites safe, compliant, and welcoming for children, young people, and staff.

The role is based mainly at Dan Y Coed School & Home in Swansea and offers a chance to work in specialist education and care settings where practical maintenance support has a direct impact on day-to-day life.

Salary is up to £30,000 depending on experience. The job is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and is expected to start in September 2026.

Key duties

  • Handle routine maintenance work, small repairs, and basic decoration tasks across the site.
  • Carry out regular statutory checks and support overall site compliance.
  • Keep grounds and outdoor areas neat, safe, and well presented.
  • Manage and supervise contractors while they are working on site.
  • Assist site managers with health and safety obligations.
  • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance problems and help improve first-time fix performance.
  • Play a part in keeping the schools and homes safe, compliant, and in good condition.

What the role supports

This position is intended to reduce dependence on travelling maintenance teams, speed up response times, and support a more efficient regional maintenance model built around local hubs.

About you

The ideal candidate will be practical, dependable, and comfortable working independently. You should be confident with hands-on maintenance work, have a strong sense of safety and detail, and be able to communicate well with colleagues, contractors, and managers in busy specialist education and care environments.

Previous experience in a caretaker, maintenance, or facilities-based role would be helpful, but it is not essential if you bring the right skills, attitude, and approach.

What’s on offer

  • A permanent position with stable full-time hours.
  • A competitive salary package of up to £30,000, subject to experience.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in specialist school and home settings.
  • Support from a structured regional team and a clearer maintenance framework.
  • The chance to contribute to a more effective estates service.

How to apply

If you are looking for a varied, practical role where every day brings something different, this could be a strong fit. You will help keep the Swansea sites safe, compliant, and welcoming for the people supported there.
