Position Summary
The Shift Supervisor supports the Store Manager by managing daily operational activities to ensure consistent service delivery throughout the Thrift Store. When needed, this role also performs duties as a Sales Associate.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers and donors in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
- Ensure the protection and quality of all donated goods.
- Accurately complete customer transactions including cash and debit payments.
- Contribute towards achieving store financial goals by upholding customer service standards.
- Open and close the store according to established procedures when required.
- Handle donated materials by receiving, sorting, packing, pricing, and organizing stock.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of inventory to respond to customer inquiries both in-store and by phone.
- Monitor store security by observing activities and ensuring a safe environment.
- Manage merchandise safely and systematically, including stock rotation.
- Assist with inventory control activities such as receiving, pricing, and cycle counting.
- Support attractive store layout, including window and merchandise displays, and maintain tidiness.
- Restock inventory promptly as directed and remove unsellable items.
- Provide training and operational guidance to staff when required.
- Lead Store Associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety regulations to foster a safe workplace.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Relationships
- Internal collaboration with NRO Administration, The Salvation Army management and staff.
- External interaction with donors, clients, and contractors.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Full-time permanent position based in a retail store environment.
- Physical tasks frequently include lifting up to 30 pounds independently, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and fluctuating temperatures is common.
- Deadline adherence and managing occasional interpersonal conflicts with customers and colleagues.
- Work includes varied tasks with some repetitive activities.
Education and Experience Requirements
- At minimum, partial completion of high school education.
- At least two years of experience in retail store or warehouse operations.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Physical capability to handle stock as described.
- Willingness and ability to support The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
- Compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and organizational safety policies.
Compensation
Salary range is targeted between $18.50 and $23.13 per hour, with a maximum rate of $27.76, subject to factors such as candidate experience, skills, and market conditions.
