Job description
Role Overview
This position is for a Shift Engineer supporting carbon fiber operations in the chemicals and utilities area. The role is based in Surat and involves leading shift activities to keep plant operations safe, stable, and efficient.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
Experience
Candidates should have 3 to 6 years of experience overall. Preferred candidates will typically have 3 to 5 years of shop-floor experience in manmade fiber manufacturing, along with exposure to acrylic fiber chemical processes and/or utility operations. Experience in continuous-process environments and 24/7 shift rotations with cross-functional teams is also preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the chemical and utility plants running smoothly during the shift, making timely operational decisions and arranging manpower as the shift leader.
- Work with colleagues from other departments during shifts to resolve operational and administrative issues.
- Hand over and receive equipment from the maintenance team safely and on time for preventive and predictive maintenance, while ensuring SOP-based safety guidance is followed.
- Compile the shift status MIS by gathering inputs from the assisting team and share the update with the department manager.
- Investigate shift deviations and operational issues, identify the root causes, and recommend or implement corrective actions.
- Take part in the daily GAMBA walk.
- Share product quality and performance feedback with shift team members on a regular basis.
- Track and control shift-level costs and consumption in the chemicals and utilities function, including energy loss, waste generation, breakdowns, and other quality indicators, and look for improvement opportunities.
- Use resources efficiently during the shift to maximize productivity and yield.
Preferred Profile
- A strong academic background with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from a reputed university and a solid track record in the field.
- Hands-on experience in shop-floor operations within manmade fiber manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of acrylic fiber chemical processing and/or utility systems.
- Comfort working in continuous operations with rotating 24/7 shift schedules and cross-functional coordination.
