Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is with a global wind energy leader that is expanding quickly in New Zealand. The role is based on the Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm near Dargaville in Northland, which will be the first V162 platform installed in the country and is described as a leading-edge project. Service Technicians report to the Site Supervisor and are accountable for the care, servicing, and maintenance of wind turbines in line with the contract. Day-to-day support comes from an administrator and planner, while performance targets are set by the Area Service Manager.
Key duties
- Carry out planned servicing and corrective maintenance when required.
- Attend the site outside standard working hours on a rostered basis to handle urgent maintenance needs.
- Keep company vehicles well maintained and ensure plant and equipment remain clean and in good working order.
- Perform operations and maintenance work only within the scope of training and authorisation, including HV and LV activities.
- Complete each task in a way that protects people, safeguards the environment, and follows approved work methods.
- Attend the site induction and follow the requirements of the Service Maintenance Agreement (SMA).
- Meet duty-of-care obligations under OH&S legislation and contribute actively to accident prevention.
- Follow all work instructions, procedures, safety codes of practice, employer OH&S and environmental requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Use the required personal protective equipment at all times.
- Take part in safety, toolbox, and other required meetings.
- Perform any other tasks that are within your competence, skills, qualifications, and experience as directed.
Required qualifications and competencies
To be considered, you should hold an electrical and/or mechanical trade certificate and a full driver’s licence. You also need to be comfortable using a PC and modern technology in your daily work, and able to interpret technical drawings to support troubleshooting and maintenance. Familiarity with PLC and/or SCADA systems is advantageous.
The role suits someone who is motivated to learn, eager to build capability in a growing sector, and committed to strong safety practices. Previous exposure to HV/LV systems, hydraulics, and mechanical equipment in residential, commercial, or industrial settings is valuable. You should be confident using hand tools, communicate well, work effectively in a small team, and be able to work at height and in confined spaces.
