Role overview
This permanent shift-based position is for a Service Technician III working at the Asda customer site in Warrington, Otago, New Zealand. The role reports to the Duty Engineer and focuses on keeping the material handling system running reliably so that productivity, output, equipment availability, safety compliance, and teamwork all stay at the required level and within agreed timeframes.
Vanderlande is a global specialist in baggage handling for airports, parcel and postal sorting, and warehouse solutions. In this site-based role, you will support maintenance activities and respond to reactive faults across the system.
Key duties
- Carry out maintenance work and react quickly to breakdowns on material handling equipment.
- Apply planned preventative maintenance practices with a strong focus on getting work right the first time.
- Work toward long-term fixes by investigating issues and driving continuous improvement.
- Respond promptly to faults and perform effective corrective maintenance.
- Communicate professionally with the customer in person, by phone, email, or radio.
- Help ensure service level agreements are met and improved wherever possible.
- Complete planned, corrective, and reactive maintenance tasks within required timescales.
- Step in to support other technicians or shifts when operational needs require it.
- Share technical knowledge and important information with colleagues to support team capability.
- Perform routine checks such as operational inspections, function tests, cleaning, adjustment, lubrication, and monitoring.
- Identify root causes of faults and pursue durable solutions rather than temporary fixes.
- Follow all relevant health, safety, and legislative requirements at all times.
- Keep work areas safe, tidy, and well organised throughout the shift.
Skills and experience needed
The ideal candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical multiskilling, a practical approach to fault finding, and good communication. Experience with automated material handling environments is highly valuable, and familiarity with PLC control systems would be an added advantage. A methodical working style, accuracy, and proven problem-solving ability are important. ASRS experience is also beneficial.
Working conditions
This is a permanent role with shift work at a customer site. The position includes 288 hours of holiday entitlement, performance-related pay, and benefits such as Aviva medical cover and pension support.
