About the role
Sandvik Mining is hiring a Field Service Service Technician in Waihi, New Zealand. In this position, you will be responsible for helping Sandvik machinery run safely, dependably, and with strong performance. You will act as the main technical contact between the company and its customers, providing responsive support and a high standard of service.
The role involves working alongside the customer’s maintenance management team to improve equipment uptime through planned inspections, preventive maintenance, and practical repair work. You will deal with hydraulic, electrical, and automation systems on Sandvik equipment, including underground and surface drill rigs, loaders, trucks, and other related machines.
You will also work with Sandvik’s regional technical specialists to identify faults and close out technical problems, while contributing ideas that help improve the product over time. On occasion, you may be asked to take on additional duties to support customer success and maintain reliable equipment performance.
Work pattern
This position follows a roster of 4 days working followed by 3 days off.
Relocation note

Responsibilities
- Create and maintain positive customer relationships by delivering dependable, high-quality service.
- Work with site teams to improve maintenance processes and get better use from equipment.
- Investigate faults and perform diagnostics to quickly pinpoint and fix technical issues.
- Share field observations and technical input to support product improvement efforts.
- Keep service notes and records accurate and aligned with company expectations.
- Follow all site and company safety rules and help maintain safe working practices.
- Take responsibility for the standard of your work and the results delivered to customers.
Requirements
- Formal trade certification in Heavy Duty Mechanical or Auto Electrical.
- Hands-on experience with maintenance and fault diagnosis on heavy equipment.
- Solid knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Background in servicing and repairing mining equipment such as drill rigs, trucks, and loaders.
- Ability to work through technical problems and apply practical solutions.
- Commitment to quality work that meets OEM expectations.
- Strong safety mindset with consistent compliance to EHS requirements.
- Dependable, self-driven, and comfortable working both independently and in a team.
- Prior exposure to Sandvik equipment is an advantage.
- Familiarity with maintenance software and service reporting is beneficial.
- Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement is desirable.
- Good communication skills and the ability to build productive site relationships.
- Flexibility to respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced field service setting.
- Experience with warranty processes and OEM service requirements is a plus.
