Job description

Role overview

The Service Employee supports the upkeep and fueling of school buses, activity buses, and commercial buses alongside the Maintenance Department. This role is responsible for dispensing fuel, recording oil and meter readings accurately, restocking supplies and equipment, and helping manage bus flow so vehicles remain safe and ready for service. Light upkeep on buildings and grounds may also be required.

Key duties

  • Unlock the yard gates, inspect parking areas, and make sure buses can leave on schedule; move any vehicles that may block yard traffic.
  • Keep complete and accurate logs, including Bulk Fuel Receiving, Fuel Variance, month-end closing, and meter calibration reports.
  • Alert the Location Manager or another assigned contact when a fuel shipment is needed, and verify stick readings before and after delivery.
  • Check and top up operating fluids and related components on buses, including oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, and belts.
  • Carry out minor interior and exterior maintenance on buses when needed.
  • Handle any other tasks or directions assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED-equivalent education.
  • Working knowledge of bus maintenance.
  • Willingness and ability to learn maintenance-related tasks.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
