Its work spans multiple sectors, including buildings and infrastructure, agri-food, automotive and transport, marine and offshore, and power and utilities. The company also performs laboratory and on-site assessments to confirm that products, services, assets, and installations meet applicable standards and regulations.
Operating as a business-to-business-to-society organization, Bureau Veritas focuses on building trust between businesses, public authorities, and consumers. Sustainability is embedded in its strategy, with services designed to help clients address safety, environmental, social, and product-quality challenges throughout the supply chain.
Role overview
The company is hiring a Service Centre Customer Service Representative for its St. John’s service centre. The position reports to the Supervisor, Sample Logistics and is a full-time, one-year contract role with the possibility of becoming permanent. This is a practical, multi-tasking role that blends client support, shipping coordination, and sample handling. You will be the first point of contact at the local site, welcoming visitors, answering questions, preparing sample shipments, arranging bottle orders, and helping make sure environmental samples reach the laboratory safely and on schedule.
The role is based in the St. John’s, Newfoundland office and requires on-site work five days a week.
What the role involves
- Receive environmental samples and incoming shipments, check the paperwork, enter details into company systems, and prepare items for transport to the laboratory.
- Package samples carefully so they remain protected and are dispatched within the required timelines.
- Greet clients who come to the service centre, answer phone calls, respond to questions, and provide updates on sample shipments and bottle orders.
- Organize, prepare, and send bottle orders to clients across Newfoundland and Labrador, while keeping order accuracy and delivery timing on track.
- Track stock levels and help maintain day-to-day operational readiness.
- Follow established quality, safety, and operating procedures while keeping records accurate and complete.
- Work with supervisors, laboratory staff, customer service colleagues, and business development teams to support a smooth client experience.
What you need to bring
- Strong client communication skills, with confidence speaking to people in person and by phone in a professional, calm, and courteous manner.
- Care and precision in following instructions, keeping records, and completing tasks accurately the first time.
- Physical ability to spend most of the day on your feet, move around the facility, and lift up to 50 pounds when needed.
- Flexibility and initiative to handle shifting priorities in a busy environment, stay dependable, and step in where support is required.
- Comfort with technology and a willingness to learn new systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, shipping tools, and internal platforms.
- Prior exposure to customer service, shipping, logistics, warehousing, retail, hospitality, or laboratory settings is considered an advantage.
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
Why this opportunity stands out
This position offers meaningful day-to-day work, since each sample handled contributes to environmental testing that supports communities, natural resources, and public health. It also provides steady scheduling, with regular weekday daytime hours in a fast-moving but predictable setting. In addition, the role can help you build experience across customer service, logistics, shipping coordination, and laboratory operations, with potential growth into broader customer-facing or commercial opportunities within the company.
Recruitment process
- Initial virtual conversation with a Talent Advisor, which will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-based video interview platform.
- Second virtual interview with the hiring team to assess your background and fit for the role.
