Job description
Role overview
AlphaX is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to take charge of tax return review, support client accounting work, and uphold high standards for accuracy and workflow in a growing public accounting environment.
The ideal professional will have a background in public accounting and hands-on experience reviewing both individual and business tax returns, not just preparing them. In this role, you will be expected to catch mistakes, follow up on missing details, speak directly with clients, and make sure returns are fully ready for filing.
This position is not centered on bookkeeping, data entry, or accounts payable/receivable. Instead, it focuses on return review, client communication, tax-ready financials, and quality control, while also offering support and direction to junior or offshore accounting team members.
Key responsibilities
- Examine individual, partnership, S-corporation, and corporate tax filings to confirm accuracy and compliance
- Spot errors, missing records, inconsistent data, and possible tax exposure before submission
- Reach out to clients about tax documents, filing-related questions, deadlines, and financial information
- Review and refine QuickBooks records so they support accurate tax reporting
- Help coordinate month-end, year-end, and tax-season activity across several client accounts
- Offer coaching and quality oversight to junior accountants and offshore support staff
- Contribute to tax planning efforts, workflow enhancements, and internal process standardization
- Manage multiple client engagements while meeting service commitments and filing deadlines
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in public accounting or tax accounting
- Prior responsibility for reviewing tax returns is required
- Background handling individual and business returns, including partnerships, S corporations, and corporations
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and general ledger accounting
- Experience interacting directly with clients in a public accounting setting
- Ability to work on your own in a hybrid environment while balancing several deadlines
- Strong detail orientation, communication ability, organization, and problem-solving skills
Benefits
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience
- Health coverage and a broader benefits package
- Retirement plan choices
- Paid time off
- Other employer-sponsored benefits
- The chance to improve client service and strengthen tax workflows across the firm
Additional information
This role is intended for a seasoned tax accountant who is comfortable reviewing complex work, supporting clients, and improving accuracy within a public accounting practice.
