Role Overview
The Senior Specialist in Employee Relations operates as a key member of the Employee Relations team, reporting directly to the Employee Relations Director. This role acts as a reliable consultant who evaluates workplace issues, carries out thorough investigations, determines organizational risks, and suggests suitable resolutions. It works closely with HR Business Partners, management, and relevant parties to ensure consistent policy use, lawful case handling, and prompt resolution of employee relation cases.
Key Duties
- Lead inquiries into workplace issues reported internally or through selected external channels, addressing concerns such as harassment, retaliation, discrimination, policy infractions, and other employee relation matters.
- Use prudent decision-making to reach proper investigative conclusions and suggestions.
- Coordinate with HR Business Partners to guarantee uniform and legally compliant case management across all employee groups.
- Maintain meticulous, audit-ready records and tracking of investigations.
- Develop and implement structured investigation methodologies tailored to the complexity of each case.
- Ensure cases reach timely and well-justified conclusions by documenting findings, rationale, recommendations, and required follow-ups.
- Protect sensitive employee data and testimonies with strict confidentiality standards.
- Create clear, defensible investigation reports capable of withstanding legal and regulatory examination.
- Collaborate across departments on investigations, performance management, and wider employee relations programs.
- Analyze investigation trends to reveal risk patterns, recurring concerns, and identify opportunities for preventive measures.
- Implement employee relations best practices concerning conflict resolution, complaint handling, case management, workplace inquiries, and policy interpretation.
- Provide advice to leaders on disciplinary measures, separations, administrative leave, and other employment-related decisions by balancing risk, policy fairness, employee experience, and company objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related discipline is mandatory.
- Between three to five years of relevant experience in Employee Relations or Human Resources, including direct involvement in workplace investigations, is required.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment legislation and consistent application in a multi-state work environment.
- Proven experience advising supervisors on disciplinary actions, documentation, and performance management issues.
- Strong written and oral communication abilities to effectively document processes and generate reports.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling confidential employee and company information.
