Senior Site Civil Engineer

Role overview

We are seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer to oversee civil works on a Dubai-based project. The role centers on translating design intent into site execution, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring that construction activities meet approved drawings, specifications, quality expectations, and safety requirements.

Core duties

• Read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and project plans on site; coordinate with design engineers to resolve technical points and reflect approved design changes.
• Assess technical submissions and contractor inputs, including shop drawings, calculations, material submittals, and site-related queries, and provide review comments or acceptance where appropriate.
• Oversee daily site execution so that work progresses in line with the approved construction program and engineering requirements.
• Work closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support schedule adherence and quality outcomes.
• Contribute to project coordination meetings, construction method planning, and risk assessment development.
• Support troubleshooting for technical challenges and construction issues encountered during site execution.
• Create and apply inspection and testing plans to uphold required project standards.
• Check that delivered materials match project specifications and are handled, stored, and used correctly.
• Ensure all activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and environmental, health, and safety rules.
• Carry out site inspections and surveys, document progress with photographs, identify non-conformances, and recommend corrective actions.
• Review CBR and other geotechnical test results to confirm subgrade strength and suitability before substrate work begins.
• Inspect subgrade conditions and proof rolling to verify compaction, detect weak areas, and confirm consistency before base layer placement.
• Perform or oversee destructive and non-destructive compaction checks for subgrade, road base, trench backfill, and pavement layers.
• Inspect concrete works, including formwork, reinforcement, slump tests, and concrete strength tests.
• Monitor pressure testing of water mains and related water infrastructure to verify integrity and leak-free performance.
• Review hydrostatic and air testing for sewer and stormwater pipelines to ensure authority compliance.
• Verify level surveys and set-out checks before construction of roads, culverts, drainage structures, and retaining walls.
• Review pavement conformance checks such as surface levels, thickness, camber, and core sampling.
• Carry out erosion and sediment control inspections to support environmental compliance.
• Complete final inspections and conformance records for handover to clients, authorities, or asset owners.
• Examine contractor survey information and as-built drawings to identify discrepancies and resolve non-compliance issues.
• Prepare and keep up-to-date site progress and quality reports, including photo records of inspections, construction activities, progress, challenges, issues, solutions, and actions.
• Submit the site diary copy to the project administrator and document controller every week.
• Annotate drawings to show construction progress and share the marked-up copies with the project administrator and document controller on a weekly basis.

The position is part-time and onsite in Dubai. It requires strong coordination, practical site oversight, and active communication across multiple project stakeholders to keep work moving smoothly and to a high standard.
