Senior Safety Officer

Mercury is seeking a Senior Safety Officer to support construction projects in Dublin, Ireland. Key Responsibilities

• Help build and sustain a strong, professional safety culture across project sites.
• Plan and carry out health, safety, and environmental practices to a high industry standard.
• Act as a trusted adviser on safety, health, environmental, and wellbeing matters.
• Set the standard through professional conduct and strong leadership across EHS activities.
• Provide practical, expert health and safety advice to project stakeholders to support compliant delivery.
• Keep project safety management systems current, including project plans, 09-EHS folders, and BIM/ACC records, and ensure environmental requirements are followed and documented.
• Deliver site inductions and ensure all required mandatory and role-specific competencies are completed for new joiners.
• Work closely with project teams and trades through meetings, communication, and support for planning and coordination on EHS matters.
• Carry out audits and inspections to the required frequency and depth, aligned with monthly targets and project risk levels.
• Track site performance, identify trends, and help introduce improvement actions based on KPIs and findings.
• Respond to incidents or accidents on site and assist with investigations; where the Project Manager is unavailable, lead the investigation process.
• Coordinate professionally with regulatory or enforcement authorities during inspections or incident-related visits.
• Support the BU EHS Lead with preparing health and safety reports at required intervals.
• Represent Mercury positively in client interactions and ensure reporting is completed as required.
• Alert the BU EHS Lead quickly if any site is at risk of lacking sufficient health and safety coverage.
• Support tender submissions and Ariba prequalification activities.
• Attend project start-up and supply chain meetings, including onboarding, and help ensure project setup aligns with client contractual requirements.
• Deliver relevant and effective health and safety training to site teams and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in the construction industry.
• At least 3 years working as an EHS professional, supported by a recognised professional qualification.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Good organisational capability.
• Effective time management skills.
• Solid IT skills.
