Job description

About the Role and Organization

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) plays a vital role in supporting regeneration, housing, and economic growth through major funding programmes across the UK. The Grants Delivery Unit manages key local growth funds such as the Local Regeneration Fund, Local Growth Fund, Pride in Place Impact Fund, and Borderlands Growth Deal. The unit oversees delivery via local authorities and partners and advances funding simplification efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with local authorities and partners through strategic, proportionate engagement to understand local project contexts, inform policy and delivery, and manage risks.
  • Manage programme governance by maintaining board reporting cycles, governance structures, and escalation processes. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of delivery progress, risks, issues, and dependencies utilizing established PMO frameworks and tools. Support lessons learned activities and assist with ad hoc business case development.
  • Coordinate internal and external communications including Parliamentary Questions, ministerial submissions, FOI responses, and senior briefings. Develop and maintain core communication materials and support proactive strategies including case studies and fund updates. Organize networking events and workshops to encourage peer-learning among local authorities.
  • Leverage data and evidence to assure delivery performance, generate insights for senior stakeholders, and collaborate with analysts and digital specialists to enhance reporting and assurance. Identify risks and propose solutions to improve data quality and reporting systems.
  • Promote an inclusive, supportive team culture encouraging continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Foster strong cross-functional relationships and confidently represent the team in government and external forums.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience managing grant-related monitoring, performance, or financial data.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship building across government bodies and delivery partners.
  • Proven organisational and task management capabilities, including leading specialized projects, managing deadlines, and ensuring quality assurance.
  • Analytical skills with a strong ability to assess risk, interpret evidence, and devise practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting and quality-assuring correspondence and briefing materials.
  • Commitment to inclusive leadership, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with programme governance, PMO standards, risk and issue management, assurance, or delivery planning.

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with business case drafting and governance within UK government or devolved administrations.
  • Experience creating case studies, fund updates, and communications materials.
  • Understanding of public sector data, assurance, and governance processes.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary of £44,004, with an additional government contribution of £12,747 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Benefits include flexible working arrangements, tailored career development pathways, MyLifestyle staff benefits, Childcare Vouchers, and Cycle to Work schemes.

Additional Information

All applicants must submit a merged CV and cover letter (maximum 750 words) through the designated application process. The recruitment involves two stages: CV sift and remote interviews assessing behaviours, technical skills, and strengths. The role requires passing security clearances including BPSS and Counter-Terrorist Checks. The organization is a Disability Confident employer, aiming for fair and inclusive recruitment.
