The Senior Product Developer is a key player who independently manages product development for Activewear and Swimwear across multiple brands. This role requires expertise in fabric innovation, construction, and development techniques, overseeing projects from conception through production, while mentoring junior team members and collaborating cross-functionally to ensure timelines and costs align with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive product development efforts for Activewear and Swim categories, managing workflows and cost estimations independently across varied brands.
  • Maintain active tracking of work-in-progress (WIP) stages to support a dynamic multi-brand production calendar.
  • Set and negotiate cost targets and retail pricing to preserve profit margins, addressing issues related to margin or development challenges by proposing solutions during key meetings.
  • Oversee vendor capacities and direct product allocation to manufacturers strategically for optimal execution.
  • Serve as primary daily liaison with mills, manufacturers, and internal teams including Buying, Research & Development, Design, Technical Design, and Purchasing.
  • Create and maintain product development schedules, participate in fittings to assure quality and timing standards are met.
  • Travel internationally to vendors to expedite production and enhance process efficiency.
  • Guide and develop junior staff through training and workshops, leading approvals and meetings in management's absence.
  • Conduct competitor analysis to inform target costs and introduce new fabric technologies and materials.
  • Support continuous improvement of product development processes and coordinate sample logistics with PR and studio teams to guarantee timely cataloging.

Fabric Development Leadership

  • Direct fabric research specifically for Activewear, employing expert knowledge of fabric construction and finishing techniques.
  • Negotiate fabric pricing and set FOB cost targets from technical specifications through production stages.
  • Identify and resolve issues with bulk fabric, integrating new fabric sources and manufacturers as necessary.
  • Coordinate between Swim Research & Development and Design teams to balance minimum order quantities and costs.

Required Competencies and Qualifications

  • In-depth expertise in garment construction, material specifications, and finishing methods.
  • Strong understanding of fabric types, trims, quality standards, and development workflows.
  • Proficient in managing tight deadlines and multitasking within fast-paced, short lead-time environments.
  • Proven leadership skills including team management and mentoring abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • High level of organizational aptitude with a keen eye for detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), Google Suite (Slides, Sheets, Docs, Mail), Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Physical capability to handle tasks including lifting up to 10 lbs, repetitive hand motions, sitting for extended periods, and various physical movements as needed.
  • Minimum of 8 years product development or production experience with Activewear and Swim, including at least 1 year in a leadership capacity.
  • Academic background in Apparel Manufacturing, Product Development, Fashion Design, or similar fields.
  • Experience with international vendor/factory travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and think critically in high-pressure environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced fabric and finishing knowledge particularly in Activewear.
  • Established vendor relationships and resources.
  • Extensive understanding of textiles, sourcing, and production processes.
  • Availability for international travel one to two times per year.

Additional Information

Candidates thrive in a dynamic work environment requiring minimal supervision, collaborative teamwork, and a willingness to contribute beyond responsibility boundaries. The current base salary range is approximately $90,000 to $110,000 annually.
