Position Overview

As Senior Procurement Specialist (also known as General Indirect Procurement Category Manager), you will be responsible for leading procurement efforts across a variety of indirect spend categories, including Information Technology, Telecom, Digital Media, Fundraising, Recruitment, Fleet, Training, Travel, Food, and Publishing. This pivotal role entails both strategic oversight and hands-on execution, acting as the subject-matter expert and primary advisor to senior leadership and stakeholders across the organization. An integral part of your role includes managing a Category Specialist and acting as a champion for procurement best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all stages of the procurement process across assigned categories in line with organizational targets.
  • Act as the main liaison for senior stakeholders, enhancing engagement and building robust professional relationships.
  • Implement procurement strategy by developing and enforcing procedures, policies, and cost-saving measures in collaboration with procurement leadership.
  • Analyze market and supplier data to uncover optimal sourcing opportunities and inform procurement strategies.
  • Manage sourcing processes including strategy, competitive tenders, negotiations, and contract enforcement.
  • Deliver tangible cost reductions and value through proactive supplier optimization and efficiency drives.
  • Supervise supplier and contract management activities, ensuring ongoing compliance and the resolution of issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive contract records and risk assessments, taking preemptive action to manage organizational exposure.
  • Champion ethical sourcing and protect the organization from contractual, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Guide and support multidisciplinary project teams, providing insight on strategic sourcing and shaping effective spend management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting required; finance/accounting diploma considered an asset.
  • Certification such as Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) or a similar qualification preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience managing procurement categories, with experience in the non-profit sector advantageous.
  • Demonstrated expertise with complex, high-value and high-risk procurement portfolios, ideally including GDPR compliance with third-party software deals.
  • Proven leadership in running RFPs, drafting contracts, and delivering measurable savings.
  • Skilled at developing supplier partnerships, resolving challenges, and driving performance improvements.
  • Experienced in project management for procurement activities.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and business judgement applied in procurement decisions.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and present data-driven insights.
  • Strong organizational and ethical standards with sound risk management, proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and databases.
