Job description

About the company

Slalom launched its first New Zealand office in Auckland in 2023 as part of its growth across the Asia-Pacific region. In just three years, the local team has grown to more than 60 professionals, working with alliance partners to deliver outcomes that address strategic, technology, business, and transformation needs for clients across multiple sectors. The business is supported by a global network of over 12,000 people in 53 offices worldwide, combining local insight with international capability.

Role overview

As a Principal Consultant focused on transformation, you will lead complex change programmes for public- and private-sector clients throughout New Zealand. In this senior advisory role, you will help define strategy, create practical solutions, and work closely with clients to achieve measurable impact across areas such as operating model design, business strategy, organisational effectiveness, customer experience, and modern product practices.

You will also guide and develop high-performing consulting teams, strengthen client partnerships, and contribute to business expansion through thought leadership and support on pursuits. This opportunity is best suited to an experienced consultant who is comfortable working through uncertainty, enjoys tackling complicated challenges, and is driven to create long-term value for clients, teams, and the wider organisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead transformation assignments covering operational efficiency, organisational design, business strategy, modern product practices, organisational effectiveness, customer experience, and portfolio leadership.
  • Develop trusted client relationships and ensure proposed solutions are aligned to client priorities while producing clear, measurable value.
  • Oversee business operations in a way that supports strong team performance and sustainable growth.
  • Work collaboratively across functions to help advance the company’s growth and community presence.
  • Take accountability for strategic initiatives and market-specific solutions for New Zealand.
  • Help strengthen the company’s profile, reputation, and influence in New Zealand.
  • Coach and mentor team members, build their consulting capability, promote continuous improvement, and support successful transformation delivery.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate brings management consulting experience in a client-facing, engagement-led environment. You should have at least 7 years of relevant background in project management, operational improvement, and/or organisational effectiveness gained through consulting or operational roles.

Technical depth in one or more relevant disciplines is expected, ideally with accreditation in areas such as Agile, Lean Six Sigma, SAFe, Change Management, Product Management, Facilitation, or Leadership Coaching.

You should also have experience creating strong proposals and solution responses based on customer needs, leading engagement teams, and managing people through planning, performance, and talent development cycles. The role requires the ability to apply structured methods to project work, develop practical plans to address client concerns and engagement risks, and create targeted action plans or strategies when required.

Values and workplace culture

The organisation places strong emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and helping every team member contribute fully. Its culture is built around reflecting the communities it serves, and its values guide everyday decisions.

The New Zealand office also values work-life balance and flexibility, with an environment that supports people when life gets busy and encourages connection while respecting the need for space. The business invests in holistic wellbeing, meaningful allowances, and professional, technical, and personal development. As one of the foundational members of the New Zealand team, you will also help shape the local values and culture.
