About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Medical Editor to join a marketing and communications agency focused on the Life Sciences and Biopharma sector. This part-time, contract position is remote and available for the period from August 3rd to August 7th, with potential for future ad-hoc assignments. The editor will play a critical role in ensuring the scientific integrity and editorial excellence of healthcare communications materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform final editorial reviews of client-facing content before submission and medical/regulatory/legal (MeRL) review, covering presentations, website content, social media, emails, reports, and marketing materials.
  • Refine content to improve clarity, maintain consistent tone and brand voice, ensure scientific accuracy, and uphold style and regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver both rapid “triage” edits within tight deadlines and detailed line edits for priority projects.
  • Implement and maintain client-specific style standards, collaborating regularly with Regulatory and Copy teams to update style guides and templates.
  • Conduct light fact and terminology checks for accuracy, complementing subject matter expert reviews.
  • Ensure all communications align with medical, regulatory, and legal guidelines specific to clients.
  • Work closely with creative, copywriting, account, and project management teams to address content queries, prioritize tasks, and keep projects on schedule.
  • Represent editorial interests in internal meetings including kickoffs, content evaluations, and status updates.
  • Support content development efforts to promote editorial consistency, appropriate structure, and smooth content flow.
  • Continuously review materials to verify grammar, clarity, brand alignment, client tone, and compliance with AMA and client style guides.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and professional experience.
  • Minimum five years of editing experience in healthcare, medical communications, or pharmaceuticals; experience in advertising or marketing is advantageous.
  • Deep knowledge of AMA Manual of Style and AP style guidelines.
  • Familiarity with medical, regulatory, and legal review processes and FDA promotional regulations.
  • Strong understanding of medical and scientific terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-driven with strong accountability and independent work capability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative communication skills.
