Role overview

This opportunity is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Building Services team in Wellington. The position focuses on strong technical design capability, a broad multidisciplinary outlook, and ownership of mechanical work packages within building services projects.

You will work alongside a large regional network of more than 400 Building Services Engineers across Asia Pacific, contributing to a variety of client projects while developing both your technical and leadership capabilities in a collaborative environment.

What the role involves

  • Taking responsibility for mechanical work packages within the building services discipline.
  • Contributing to technical delivery across HVAC and related building services work.
  • Supporting project teams with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
  • Helping junior mechanical engineers build their technical capability.
  • Progressing design work from early concept and load estimation through detailed design, construction monitoring, practical completion, and final fine-tuning.
  • Working in a culture that encourages collaboration, professional growth, and knowledge sharing.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant brings a strong background in HVAC building services engineering, consulting experience, and the confidence to contribute to complex projects. Experience in New Zealand is helpful for understanding local building code and seismic design expectations.

Experience and technical background

  • At least 5 to 6 years of experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of that experience should come from a consulting environment.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver HVAC mechanical design from concept through to completion.
  • Experience using load estimation tools such as Carrier E-20 or IES.
  • Familiarity with design communication tools such as Bluebeam and Revit.
  • Working knowledge of international mechanical HVAC standards and guidance such as CIBSE or ASHRAE.
  • If your background is in New Zealand consulting, familiarity with local building regulations and seismic design requirements is expected.
