Role overview

Toast builds software that helps restaurants and local businesses run more effectively in an increasingly digital environment. The company focuses on helping owners improve operations, grow revenue, connect with guests, and support their teams.

Reporting to the Area Vice President of International People, the Senior Manager, People is a key partner for Toast’s expanding international footprint. The role supports Ireland and the UK, with scope to grow into future EMEA markets, by working with business leaders and People teams to create and deliver people strategies that support expansion, improve organizational performance, and provide a consistent employee experience that also respects local market needs.

This position requires someone comfortable working in fast-changing environments, using strong judgment, flexibility, and a solid grasp of both global priorities and local business realities. The role acts as a bridge between central HR programs and market-specific requirements, helping ensure that employee programs remain fair, competitive, scalable, and compliant with local regulations.

This is a hybrid position based in Dublin, Ireland, with expectation to work from the Dublin office two days per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver core People initiatives as the business scales, while building effective partnerships across Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Operations, and Payroll.
  • Support compliance work, technology or systems deployments, and other foundational activities that keep People operations running smoothly.
  • Partner with Finance, Real Estate and Workplace Experience, Legal, and other teams to help establish Toast entities in new markets.
  • Work with People Center of Excellence teams to design and implement compensation, benefits, payroll, and related programs that align with global direction and local employment law.
  • Serve as the main People and administrative point of contact in early-stage market development, then help build scalable operating models as the market matures.
  • Balance immediate operational issues with longer-term planning that improves how the location functions.
  • Work closely with local leaders and onsite employees to roll out programs and approaches that are locally relevant, globally aligned, and supportive of company goals and employee experience.
  • Advise on employee relations topics, including investigations, grievances, and disciplinary processes.
  • Track employment practices and labor standards in the region and help ensure policies and programs stay compliant and locally appropriate.
  • Represent People matters with local authorities and agencies, including the Workplace Relations Commission where needed.
  • Partner with Legal and People COEs to maintain readiness for local HR compliance requirements and administrative audits.
  • Act as a change partner with local leadership for major global communications and change management efforts.

Requirements

  • At least 10 to 12+ years of experience in People, HR, or a similar function.
  • Strong understanding of policies, labor laws, regulations, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Experience working in a global company across time zones and within a matrixed structure, in close coordination with overseas HR business partners and global HR centers of excellence.
  • Track record of success in a high-growth environment with many stakeholders and varied business needs.
  • Strong capability in problem solving, along with experience in training and coaching others.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with fast-moving, changing environments.
  • Experience handling employee relations investigations with sound judgment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, or an HR certification, is preferred.
  • Experience in the technology or SaaS sector is an advantage.
  • Experience with Workday or another HRIS platform is preferred.
