About SoundCloud and the Role
SoundCloud connects artists, tastemakers, and fans, providing a creator-first platform with advanced tools and resources since 2007. Hosting over four times the music catalog of other major streaming services and supporting more than 40 million artists worldwide, it shapes music culture in real time. The Fan Business unit drives growth through subscriptions unlocking the full experience and an advertising side that sustains free access at scale.
We are seeking a Senior Manager of Strategy and Operations to play a crucial role within the Fan Business. Reporting to the General Manager, this hybrid strategic and operational role will influence business direction using data insights and oversee execution of key initiatives by collaborating across teams including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, Licensing, and Finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead annual and semiannual planning efforts, including revenue forecasting, key performance indicators, and business reviews for the Fan profit and loss (P&L) center.
- Analyze churn, retention, pricing, customer lifetime value (LTV) versus customer acquisition cost (CAC), and user growth to inform strategies regarding subscription SKUs, subscriber base, and revenue optimization.
- Develop an integrated fan engagement strategy addressing the interactions between subscriptions and advertising, such as balancing free-tier monetization and conversion trade-offs.
- Monitor competitive market trends and industry developments to inform strategic decisions.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, Licensing, and Data teams on forecasting, reporting, and business modeling.
- Manage cross-functional strategic initiatives end-to-end, encompassing scoping, planning, execution, and measurement.
- Lead priority projects like expanding into international markets, licensing, pricing experimentation, and promotional tactics.
- Organize and oversee regular business reviews and operating rituals to ensure progress, risk management, and accountability.
- Create scalable systems and processes to improve operational efficiency, including dashboards and performance tracking frameworks across subscriptions and advertising.
- Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership, preparing executive and board-level reports and presentations.
Experience and Skills Required
- Over six years’ experience in consulting, growth, strategy, or similar analytical roles with proven ability to lead cross-functional projects.
- Strong proficiency in strategic problem-solving, stakeholder alignment, and project delivery.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous challenges using data tools and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience building financial models and creating actionable insights from data.
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and synthesis skills for diverse audiences including executives.
- Capacity to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Highly organized and proactive with a strong ownership mentality to establish structure and processes.
- Preferably deep understanding of the digital music fan landscape including monetization models, distribution, creator economics, and competitive platforms.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 to $160,000, subject to qualifications, experience, internal parity, and location. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is provided, including:
- Medical, dental, vision, and mental health support.
- Robust 401k plan.
- Employee equity participation.
- Professional development stipend.
- Creativity and wellness benefits such as gym memberships and courses.
- Flexible vacation policy allowing up to 35 days off per year including public holidays.
- 16 weeks paid parental leave for all new parents, regardless of gender or caregiving role.
- Office perks like snacks, goodies, and two complimentary lunches weekly.
Company Culture and Values
