Position Overview

CGS Federal is recruiting a seasoned Senior Litigation Paralegal to join a dynamic, fast-paced government legal team. This critical position involves supporting a wide range of litigation activities including electronic discovery (eDiscovery), managing workflow, and assisting attorneys extensively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create complex legal documents such as indictments, warrants, summonses, motions, plea agreements, subpoenas, and legal memoranda tailored to specific case requirements.
  • Review incoming documents considering the cases' status, and gather necessary information from criminal files and law enforcement entities to complete legal submissions.
  • Ensure all recurring legal documents comply with local court rules and format guidelines.
  • Support trial preparation by assembling trial notebooks, organizing exhibits, and preparing jury instructions and lists.
  • Coordinate with victim/witness specialists to adhere to departmental guidelines related to victims’ rights, notifying relevant parties of any issues.
  • Utilize legal research tools, including Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis, to verify legal citations and statutory references for accuracy and consistency.
  • Edit and proofread briefs and other legal documents, prepare tables of contents, indexes, and lists of cited references.
  • File legal documents electronically with the U.S. District Court via the CM/ECF system.
  • Communicate updates, requests for extensions, and case developments with attorneys, other federal agencies, and defense counsel.
  • Manage electronic discovery databases by scanning, uploading, linking, and processing case-related materials from various law enforcement agencies.
  • Competently handle discovery processing, including bates-stamping and redacting documents using Adobe Acrobat and software like IPRO Eclipse.
  • Maintain electronic case files, enter data into case management systems, monitor deadlines using MS Outlook, and manage required administrative forms.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Paralegal certification, Juris Doctor degree, or enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of completed study.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a litigation paralegal, preferably with trial exposure.
  • At least one year of experience with automated litigation support, including expertise in federal and state court systems and legal research methodologies.
  • Proficient in legal research platforms such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities and good knowledge of legal procedures and terminology.
  • Experience with computer applications including word processing, databases for document review and file management, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Practical knowledge of electronic discovery (ESI) tools and procedures.
  • Ability to perform at a high quality level under significant pressure.
