Role Overview
An international engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm requires a seasoned Senior Legal Manager to provide comprehensive legal support on major pipeline, industrial, and infrastructure projects spanning the CIS region. Located in Doha, Qatar, this role predominantly deals with construction and commercial contracts, corporate law, claims management, dispute resolution, and routine legal advice for complex international projects governed by English law. The position involves direct reporting to the Legal Director and close collaboration with project leadership, commercial, procurement, finance, and executive stakeholders. Fluency in English and Russian is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare, scrutinize, negotiate, and manage contracts including construction, EPC, purchase orders, supply, procurement, and subcontractor agreements.
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of contracts from tender through execution, amendments, project finalization, and closure.
- Manage claims, disputes, contract variations, time extensions, change orders, and other related project legal issues.
- Assess and mitigate commercial and contractual risks with practical strategies.
- Support commercial negotiations with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and partners.
- Deliver ongoing legal assistance to cross-functional teams including project, commercial, procurement, and finance units.
- Prepare and maintain international group corporate documents and support corporate governance and cross-border transactions.
- Conduct legal due diligence and Know Your Customer (KYC) assessments on counterparties and suppliers.
- Ensure legal documentation aligns with English law and international contracting norms.
- Liaise with external law firms on disputes, corporate issues, and jurisdictional compliance.
- Develop and maintain legal templates, internal guidelines, and governance processes for contracts.
- Report major contractual, legal, and business risks to senior leadership.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 10 years post-qualification legal experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in legal support for construction and infrastructure projects.
- Strong background in drafting and negotiating construction-related contracts and procurement agreements.
- Hands-on experience with EPC project contracts is highly valued.
- Proficiency in managing corporate documentation and administering KYC and legal due diligence processes.
- Solid understanding of English law and principles of common law contracts.
- Fluency in both English and Russian is mandatory.
- Effective communication and negotiation capabilities.
- Ability to perform well in a high-pressure project environment, including availability outside normal hours when required.
- Willingness to relocate to Doha with flexibility for regional travel as needed.
