Role Overview
The Senior Interior Designer is entrusted with creating and delivering advanced interior design concepts that fully embody Kia's global design philosophy "Opposites United." This role demands a blend of creative excellence, technical knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across teams, ensuring design vision is realized from concept to production. The position involves managing multiple significant projects independently and providing design leadership within the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative interior designs using both 2D and 3D techniques.
- Convert conceptual ideas into practical interior solutions with keen attention to proportion, surface quality, and intricate detailing.
- Ensure all designs align with Kia's brand identity, feasibility parameters, and regulatory guidelines.
- Work closely with modelling teams (both clay and digital) to refine surfaces and forms through project stages.
- Manage various design tasks independently, ensuring deadlines are met across all design phases.
- Engage in project reviews, presentations, and milestone meetings alongside cross-functional and international teams.
- Collaborate with engineering, visualization, and product planning to maintain design integrity from concept through production.
- Contribute to cutting-edge design studies and innovations supporting Kia's long-term strategic goals.
- Mentor junior designers, interns, and contractors informally to foster growth and skill development.
- Participate actively in design critiques, workshops, and company-wide creative initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative and experimental atmosphere within the design team and broader departments.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Visual Design, or related discipline.
- 8 to 10 years of professional experience in automotive or mobility design fields.
- Demonstratable involvement in complete vehicle programs, preferably with global reach.
- Experience with interior development and engaging cross-functional stakeholders.
- High proficiency in hand-sketching and digital sketching techniques.
- Expertise in design software such as Alias, Blender, Photoshop, and VRED.
- Comprehensive understanding of vehicle structure, engineering feasibility, and manufacturing limitations.
- Aptitude for handling 2 to 3 simultaneous design projects efficiently.
- Fluent communication and visual storytelling capabilities in English; Korean language skills are advantageous.
- Self-motivated, independent with a cooperative mindset.
- Ability to thrive in multicultural and cross-functional environments with strong interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel internationally and attend training sessions in Korea as required.
