Job description
Role overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior HVAC Technician with a strong background in Oil & Gas maintenance work. The position focuses on keeping centrifugal chillers and VRF systems running reliably across industrial and commercial sites, with an emphasis on fast fault diagnosis, effective repairs, and limiting equipment downtime.
Qualification and education
A Diploma or ITI qualification in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
Experience required
The role calls for at least 10 years of practical experience in the Oil & Gas industry, whether onshore or offshore, with direct exposure to chiller systems and VRF technology. Candidates should also have handled high-capacity centrifugal chillers such as Carrier, York, Trane, Mitsubishi, or Daikin systems, as well as multi-zone VRF setups.
Technical knowledge and skills
The ideal candidate should have strong working knowledge of centrifugal chiller operation, including refrigeration cycles, oil management, purge units, and electronic expansion valves. A solid grasp of VRF systems, including heat pump and heat recovery configurations, branch controllers, refrigerant piping layouts, and addressable controls, is also essential.
The technician must be comfortable interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, manufacturer manuals, and mechanical drawings. Hands-on use of diagnostic equipment such as digital manifolds, multimeters, megohmmeters, thermal cameras, refrigerant leak detectors, and HVAC software interfaces is expected. Excellent fault-finding ability is important, especially when issues involve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems at the same time.
Core responsibilities
- Handle or supervise the installation of new centrifugal chillers and VRF systems according to engineering drawings and manufacturer requirements.
- Assist with commissioning tasks such as pressure testing, evacuation, refrigerant charging, and system balancing.
- Carry out routine daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of chillers, VRF indoor and outdoor units, compressors, condensers, evaporators, cooling towers, pumps, and AHUs.
- Complete preventive maintenance work including coil cleaning, filter replacement, refrigerant level checks, lubrication of moving parts, electrical connection checks, and control sequence verification.
- Perform corrective maintenance to bring failed equipment back into service as quickly as possible and reduce plant downtime.
- Diagnose and repair or replace defective compressors, pumps, motors, starters, contactors, capacitors, fans, belts, bearings, valves, sensors, thermostats, PLC modules, and related control parts.
- Recover, recycle, and recharge refrigerants such as R-134a, R-410A, and R-32 in line with safety and environmental requirements.
- Maintain detailed records covering maintenance work, repairs, refrigerant consumption, and spare-parts inventory.
- Prepare daily and weekly service reports for supervisory review.
- Escalate major breakdowns, safety concerns, or repeated issues, along with practical recommendations for long-term resolution.
- Follow Oil & Gas site safety rules, including PTW, LOTO, H2S awareness, and other applicable controls.
- Observe HVAC standards and codes such as ASHRAE, ISO, or comparable local and international requirements.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of oils, refrigerants, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
Language requirement
Strong English communication skills are mandatory, both written and spoken, for understanding technical documents, preparing reports, and coordinating with supervisors and team members.
