Senior Highway Technician/Designer

About the Role

Stantec is actively seeking a seasoned Senior Highway Designer to join our expanding team at the Visakhapatnam office. In this role, you will work closely with Highway engineers and senior personnel to ensure the successful execution of highway and road projects. Primary Responsibilities

• Create and deliver detailed drawings for road and highway projects, accurately interpreting technical data and effectively communicating insights to team members.
• Develop comprehensive documentation including Layout Plans, General Arrangement Drawings, Grading Plans, Plan & Profile Drawings, Cross Sections, Drainage and pipe network layouts, civil plans, signage and line markings, junction and signal drawings, and set-out plans essential for project completion.
• Manage and guarantee the quality, timely delivery, and budget adherence of project outputs.
• Review and supervise the drafting tasks assigned to junior draftsmen and CAD technicians.
• Organize, plan, and coordinate tasks within assigned projects to ensure smooth execution.
• Maintain ongoing communication with clients and foster professional relationships as needed.
• Ensure proper documentation, filing, and record-keeping of all design drawings and related documents throughout project lifecycles.
• Coordinate drawing production efforts with other internal and external project teams and disciplines.
• Gain and apply a clear understanding of the design development process in project work.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Civil Engineering or ITI certification as a Civil Draughtsman. A B.E/B.Tech degree is advantageous.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in professional road and highway drafting post-training.
• Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation, with additional skills in Civil 3D, OpenRoads, InRoads, or 12D considered valuable.
• Solid understanding of CAD standards and document delivery protocols.
• Skilled at following directives from senior engineers and performing tasks efficiently.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and communication.
• Strong communication abilities and capacity to operate effectively under tight deadlines.
• Client service expertise, including developing and maintaining constructive client relationships.
• Ability to collaborate across different staff levels and technical specialties within the organization.
• Willingness to travel and adapt to various job demands.

Education and Additional Skills

• Diploma or ITI credentials in Civil Engineering/Draughtsmanship are required, with B.E/B.Tech as a plus.
• At least 10 years of consulting and engineering industry experience post-training, including essential MicroStation drafting experience on international roadway projects.
• Prior exposure to international projects is considered favorable.
• Software capabilities include strong competence in AutoCAD and MicroStation; knowledge of InRoads, OpenRoads, Civil 3D, and 12D is an added advantage.
• Awareness of International CAD and BIM standards is a beneficial complement to skillset.
